Along with a tour of the Holocaust Memorial in Miami Beach, a conference was
held at the Doral Ocean Beach Resort. In addition to accounts by historian,
Dr. Paul Bookbinder of the University of Massachusetts, survivor Sabina Heliczer
introduced her book On the Run Italia. Community leaders including the
American Jewish Congress and Dade County Public Schools' Holocaust educator
spoke of the necessity of adding the history of Italy during the Holocaust and
moral lessons to the school curriculum. The Mayor of Bal Harbour issued a Proclamation
to Dr. Maria Lombardo on behalf of NIAF's and the National Endowment's work
on this subject.
