Don't Throw Your Legacy Away: We can help you prepare your Ethical Will

What is an Ethical Will? - An Ethical Will is a form of remembrance of your legacy left by an individual(s) for his/her/their children, grandchildren or future generations. This transmission from one generation to the other began in Biblical times and has continued throughout the ages. There is a need for Ethical Wills shown by the urgency of posterity to look behind to discover its roots to try to understand its background.

Why preserve your legacy?

Prepare an Ethical Will as a way to memorialize yourself, tell your stories, explain your values and reflect who you are to your future generations (displaying your humor, ideas etc.) and a means of passing on lessons to future generations.

As you prepare your Ethical Will, it becomes your Passport to Eternity; the document becomes the bridge between your past and future and links your life and those of your loved ones.

Beyond being a source of guidance it can also provide comfort and security to loved ones.

Why prepare your legacy?

Your knowledge, intuition and perception of life may be as valuable your wealth. Beyond being a source of guidance, the Ethical Will:

  • provides comfort and security
  • provides an understanding and provides a validity of your own life
  • is an essential tool in making a difference
  • allows future generations to be connected to a family's past
  • explains traditions, why things are done a certain way
  • passes on life's lessons, love, spiritual values, forgiving others, hopes for future generations

It is a good source of a family's history so family members understand themselves and other family members.

Explains the rationale for the distribution of assets, monetary and family heirlooms (furniture, jewelry, clothing) and through stories may convey messages to recipients.

Who needs to prepare an Ethical Will? - anyone who has completed Estate Planning and would like to take steps to preserve his/her family legacy. It can be one individual or a group (husband wife and others) that prepare the Ethical Will.

For whom is the Ethical Will intended? - for family members and for future generations. If your family has a history related to WWII, we can help you share your information with museums i.e. Museum of Immigration or the US Holocaust Memorial Museum.

What type of service is provided? - the service is custom tailored designed as a flexible service, elaborate or simple, goes beyond facts and figures with room for creative ideas. Designed as a flexible service to meet client needs, it can be an explanation of the distribution of assets with stories that may convey an important message. Starting ideas for formulating an Ethical Will are: ……. I believe, I learned from my family…, from my church…, from my schools…, from my work from my good bad experiences…, I feel…, I need…, I am grateful…, I regret…, I hope…... The service is unique in that the historical context for your family background will be provided in addition to the information you provide. Example- your father lived in Poland during 1941- a history of WWII will accompany your Ethical Will.

When is the Ethical Will prepared? - usually along with Estate Planning, but can be prepared anytime in one's life.

Where is the Ethical Will prepared? - where you are most comfortable either in your home or in the legal office.

What is the medium(design) used to prepare the Ethical Will? - The service is tailored to meet the client's needs for expressing oneself. It can be in the format of a diary, poems, letters, life's lessons booklet, songs, illustrated family calendar, book, photographic exhibit, pictorial history, videotape, tape recording, musical arrangements etc. There are many forms of expression and the client will chose what is best to convey his/her message or to record his/her history.

How is the Ethical Will presented? - it is presented by an executor, designated family member, while you are alive or after death depending on the wishes of the creator. It can be presented to an individual or the entire family. It is sealed (time capsule) and not to be opened until time specified by preparer.
