The highlight of this conference was to reunite a rescuer and survivor.
The son of rescuers, Dr. Fernando Giustini, whose grandfather gave up
his bed for pregnant survivor Helen Deutsch finally had the opportunity
to meet ailing Helen Deutsch. The reunion which after 30 years was one
of tears and joy was captured by local television stations and broadcast
throughout Chicago. Over 15 multi-ethnic organizations collaborated
on this event. A panel discussion with professors and community leaders
addressed the relevance of the Holocaust to today. A dinner followed
the event.
