The
history of Italian Liberation Day was presented by Italian Embassy, and Italian
Cultural Society officials. As part of Italian language class's history lesson,
Dr. Maria Lombardo, NIAF's Education Director related Italy's role during W.W.
II. A reception for all the students and presenters followed. Dr. Lombardo on
behalf of the National Italian American Foundation awarded two students who
had written the best essays as selected by classroom teachers on "The Hero
of My Life." The recipients wrote about a grandfather doctor in D.C. and
a grandmother who had rescued people in her village in Asia.
